My work begins with Joy

My art has always been far more than simply making a painting. It is a place that brings me joy and hope. I have always found it easier to express myself creatively than with words and through painting I want to express a celebration of joy and my love for painting. I was a make up artist for over fifteen years which I enjoyed but when I became a mother in 2009 my family life and commitments changed my priorities and I gave up a successful career to stay at home and bring up my children. Painting for me is as much about the imperfections and the layers that unfold and allow you to see into the process of the paint. Flowers gradually became a natural focus, allowing me to combine my love of colour and a way to stay connected to nature and to explore the fragile, powerful energy of life.

My work now explores the space between reality and invention and my children are older so I am able to dedicate more time to my painting. I returned to study fine art as a mature student and graduated with a first-class Honours degree.  I am a member of The Society of Women Artists, a Liveryman of The Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers.  This all helps me remain connected to a wider artistic community that continues to inspire and challenge me.

I want my paintings to bring warmth and happiness into the space. ultimately my aim is to create paintings that are not only visually engaging but emotionally uplifting . Celebrating painting and the joy and respite it can bring into our lives and I hope my paintings leave a room feeling more alive and more hopeful and fill the room with joy and love.
