About the artist

I began painting and drawing in my teens and have always continued even while I worked as a professional make up artist  for more than fifteen years, where my understanding of colour, composition and the beauty industry grew and make up was my creative outlet.   This never felt enough always working to someone else brief. This is why when becoming a mother in 2009 my family life and commitments changed my priorities and I gradually gave up my make up careers.  I continued to paint and draw from life, often turning to my children and the objects around me as subjects or attending regular life drawing classes. Flowers gradually became a natural focus, allowing me to combine my love of colour with a way to stay connected to nature and to explore the fragile yet powerful energy of life.

My work is now rooted in observation but shaped by memory, exploring the space between reality and invention and now that my children are older, I am able to dedicate more time to my painting so I returned to an art degree as a mature student and graduated with a first-class honours’ degree in Fine Art.  I am a member of the Society of Women Artists and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers, I paint weekly with a group called Studio Fridays.  This all helps me remain connected to a wider artistic community that continues to inspire and challenge my work.
